Thank You 63
Yes In My Backyard
Ever have to call them in the middle of the night when you think someone may be dying? They take care of business.
Thank you LAFD Dogtown 63.
You know how busy they are. They leave Shell and Venice multiple times over multiple hours. That’s just quantity. They cover some quality territory: From Ocean Front Walk beyond the Lincoln corridor, over to Penmar along Rose, and all the walk streets and alleys in between. Imagine those calls.
And they’ve been doing it for a while. The current house was built in 1942. Have you seen these shots at lafire.com?
This isn’t a regular job. These are firefighters and EMTs. They go to work not knowing what the fuck’s going to happen. Whatever they’re paid isn’t enough: It's A Dangerous Job.
Like a good NIMBY, I buy the new 63 hat and t-shirt at every annual pancake breakfast, and sit inside that cool old building where I’m reminded how insignificant my life is. I wear the shirts all the time. They make me look cooler than I am. I never front being one of them. When people ask if I belong to 63, I say, “No, they’re my neighbors.” I’m grateful for that.
Thank you 63.
